Chips were very fresh. Salsa had a good taste and spice. Fajita chicken Caesar salad was great. Service was great. Only negative...it was a slow Monday night.

I could eat their chips and salsa all day! Wonderful food, good prices and an incredibly nice staff every time I have walked through the door. Keep up the great work!

Quick and easy downtown Mexican food. Love the picked jalapeños. Service and dining experience are pretty good for a downtown eatery.

I ordered the steak fajita chimichanga and I must say it was pretty good and a decent size but if I had to comment on something it would be the rice and beans which are both served with it. The rice was a little dry and underseasoned, if seasoned at all and the same goes toward the beans since they weren't very pleasant. The salsa was OK, sweet and a tad spicy no complaints really on that but I do wish they would season their chips seeing how they were plain.

For being a restaurant that bases its food on a hot climate, this place sure is cold! Freezing even (heaven's to Murgatroid). Rob always gets the burger and loves it. Robby always gets the steak soft tacos and loves it. I try to mix it up. Last time was the chimichanga with the cheese sauce on the side. Pretty good. I like that they actually put a little ranchero sauce or something inside with the chicken, instead of just plain 'ol chicken and nothing else (I'm looking at you La Carreta). The salsa tastes a little like spaghetti.

Quick serivce, good margaritas, frresh salsa but bland entrees however they did come out fast but that could be due to the lack of wffort. I had a taco salad and it was bagged lettus with a few chicken bits olives and cheese..... not impressive. Now we are just waiting for the server to being checks.

Strong margaritas and average Mexican food - kind of sums up my read on this place. The chips and salsa are great, the Guac not so much. If I had to recommend entrees, I would probably end up picking either the fajitas or the blackened fish tacos, both are pretty decent. I think the taco salad is a waste of money and any drink other than their margaritas are useless lol

Azteca's is the place for Mexican food downtown. Located at the corner of Lafayette and Main, it is convenient for anyone in the downtown area. It has a classy contemporary decor, located in a historic building. The dishes are fresh, served attractively, and are priced decently considering the location. There have been some recent menu changes, and they seem to be for the better! The fish tacos are now blackened, and come with Mexican coleslaw and avocado slices on them. The salsa is also chunkier and spicier. They have really good burgers too, for those that don't feel like traditional Mexican fare. A new introduction to the menu is a grilled chicken burger. Azteca's is definitely a good choice, especially for lunch. Check it out if you are in the downtown area!

House margarita was not very good. But top shelf was awesome. Seared tuna tacos were to die for. Wife chicken enchiladas and loved them the chicken was very tender and well seasoned. Guacamole was very fresh but not well seasoned, It was very good with the tacos. I would definitely recommend.

I have eaten here a few times because it is conveniently located next to my hotel and they deliver room service. My favorite dish to date is the tortilla soup- this soup and the $1 margarita happy hour makes it worth the trip. Side note- the steak quesadillas were nothing to write home about.

I read an article about it in The Advocate so I decided to go down there and give it a shot. I never go eat downtown! It's located in the old Little Village restaurant. We went on a Saturday for an early lunch and there was nobody there. And only one other table showed up and we were there for two hours. We started off with some fried jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese. They were good but didn't sit well in my stomach. The complimentary salsa was good and had a lot of spice to it. I ordered the chicken nachos appetizer. Half of my food was burned and the other half had no flavor whatsoever. My sister ordered the Relleno de Res and she loved it. I brought some home to my husband and he enjoyed it as well. My mom got the chicken fajitas. She said they were good but a little spicy. Not good enough for her to seek out again. I might try to go again at nighttime and hope for a better crowd and maybe have a margarita.

Given the limited options in the immediate area, I feel compelled to regard Aztecas as a solid choice. I came with a friend, and we both had the garlic shrimp. I drank a couple of beers (bottled, Mexican, decent, middle-of-the-road) with dinner; my friend knocked back two margaritas. Before the main dishes came out, we were served a basket of chips (some of them colored for extra excitement) and a large quantity of industrial salsa. Everything was A-OK, especially with the alcohol. My meal earned me valuable MileagePlus Dining points. Restaurants that sign up for this program tend not to be fully booked, all the time. Just sayin'.

Very good and great atmosphere. Chicken Breast and ceasar salad with chicken great. Across street from Hampton downtown.

Seems like a very small place to eat...the chips aren't very flavorful. I'm the only person in the restaurant at 4:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon which may say something about the place. Hope my appetizer and entree are decent. Well my steak tacos was pretty good. This place is a so-so Mexican that doesn't even play Mexican music!!

Amazing chimichanga! I ordered the steak fajita chimi which comes smothered in chili with rice and beens as the side. The rice was ok. The beens were great and the chimi was fantastic. The restaurant atmosphere was pretty modern and not traditionally Mexican. I was there on a Tuesday evening around 5:30pm. There was one other customer at the bar and maybe a couple of occupied tables. The bartender was friendly and offered a good beer recommendation when asked. Definitely a place to visit again.

Due to multiple great reviews about the chimichangas, I ordered the chicken fajita chimichanga. So delicious! I had to refrain from eating it all (they're large)! They also make a great painkiller (alcoholic beverage).

Azteca's is a very cool place. One of the nicest looking Mex places I've been to... beautiful decor, granite bar, lots of wood... and about the nicest bathrooms I've seen in any restaurant lately. Their chips and sauce are killer, as are their margaritas. I am excited to go back here again for a full meal experience, as the initial sampling of their fare, atmosphere and service was top notch.

Although we didn't come in for dinner, the drinks (margaritas) and the salsa (served with FRESH chips!) were excellent and the service was outstanding. I am really looking forward to coming in for dinner soon. It is in a convenient location for the downtown lunch crowd and a little off the beaten path for dinner which enhances its appeal as far as I am concerned. Wednesdays they serve $1.99 Margaritas ALL DAY! Rated 4 stars for my limited experience. Hopefully, after dining in, I may boost it to 5 stars.

We arrived at 7:40 on a Thursday night. The place wasn't really busy- a few people at the bar and around eight dining. 80% of the dining area was available, but it took more than five minutes to be seated. We should have taken this as a sign and left! We sat at a booth next to the bar, ordered margaritas, and were then forgotten about for the next 15 minutes. When our "large" margaritas were delivered, they were served to us in small glasses because it was 'all they had left'. Again, the place was nowhere near full. It was a blessing in disguise that we only got smalls, though, because the margarita was nothing to write home about. The service was terrible and food mediocre. There are much better Mexican restaurants in the area- don't waste your time at this one!

My apt is in the building right in front of Azteca, so we get take out from there often. The food is always prepared quickly, it's always good... sometimes kind of pricy for Mexican, but for the convenience and quality, I'm ok with it. Yummm...

Nothing special, but service was good. In a desolate downtown Baton Rouge, this is a good place to grab decent Mexican food. Just down from the Hilton and Indigo hotels makes this a good place to find food. Built for the lunch crowd, nice alternative for dinner.

This place has pretty decent Tex-Mex. The servers are friendly and the food is edible. Extra star because its cheap! Its your basic white-people-making-Mexican-style-food-for-white-people joint. You know...lots of cheese sauces and ground beef. Am I the only one who found it funny that they call the joint "Aztecas," but they put a picture of a Maya temple on the menu?

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
